Champions League Round of 16 Predictions - 11/03/2025

James Budgen

Barcelona 3-1 Benfica

Despite being down to 10 men since the 22nd minute of their first leg, Barcelona rallied to an impressive away win over Benfica, putting them in good stead in the return leg at their home ground.

This was the first time in 12 matches that Benfica blanked in front of goal, but it wasn't for the want of trying with 26 shots on goal, but it was Wojciech Szczesny who prevented Benfica from taking something into the second leg, making 8 saves in a man of the match performance.

Barcelona were dominating up until Pau Curbasi was dismissed and having not lost in all competitions in 2025, they are easily the favourites to advance as it will be hard for Benfica to keep them out, as Barcelona have only failed to score in just two games this season and have scored 14 goals in 4 Champions League home games this season.

Leverkusen 0-2 Bayern Munich

With their meeting just ten days before their first leg where Bayer Leverkusen were dominant, it was thought this was going to be a close affair over two legs, but an impressive first leg at The Allianz by Bayern, has all but secured Vincent Kompany's side a spot in the quarter-finals.

Both side had weekends in the Bundesliga, with Bayern losing at home to 16th placed Bochum, giving up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2, whilst Leverkusen lost 2-0 to 12th placed Werder Bremen, with their defeat compounded by an injury to star player Florian Wirtz, with him likely to be out for a few weeks.

Coming back from a 3-0 deficit to Bayern was always going to be an uphill battle for Xabi Alonso's side, but to do so without Wirtz, and the fact they have failed to score in 4 of their last 6 games, it seems an unlikely feet for Leverkusen to produce more miracles, but with Bayern losing to Bochum at the weekend, Leverkusen will come into the game with some confidence Bayern can be got at.

Inter Milan 2-0 Feyenoord

The first leg between these two sides in Rotterdam was closely fought for the most part, but it was clear in the final third, Inter had much more quality, with goals from their two strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram giving them a two goal lead going back to The San Siro.

Inter have had a sensational Champions League campaign so far, especially defensively, conceding just once in their 9 games in the competition so far, keeping clean sheets against Manchester City, Arsenal, RB Leipzig, Monaco and Feyenoord, which makes this a great challenge Feyenoord face at The San Siro.

Feyenoord have had a week of rest coming into this game, and Robin Van Persie's side will need more of what they did in the League Phase away from home, scoring 3 goals away to Girona, Benfica and Manchester City, whilst also scoring 4 goals against Sparta Prague and 3 goals against Bayern Munich, showing that on their day they are capable of an upset.

Liverpool 1-2 PSG

Its still quite unbelievable how Liverpool came away from the first leg with a goal advantage, with PSG having 27 shots on goal, compared to Liverpool's 2 and if it wasn't for an all-time performance by Alisson, Liverpool would likely be looking to comeback from a multiple goal deficit.

PSG are one of the few teams in Europe that you can count on to grab multiple goals at Anfield, as The Parisians have scored 25 goals in their past 6 games in all competitions and in 2025, they have scored 4+ goals in a game 9 times, and with just Joao Neves and Bradley Barcola the only starters against Liverpool to start at the weekend against Rennes, they will be well rested to continue their relentless press we saw at the Parc de Princes.

Liverpool are another beast at Anfield in The Champions League, wiping the floor with Spanish Champions Real Madrid and German Champions Bayer Leverkusen in the league phase, keeping clean sheets in both games, but they will have to be better in this leg as if they play the same way, it will be likely PSG punish them this time.
